The Golden Temple

In the heart of an isolated forest, a loving couple named Samuel and Eliza resided in a rustic cabin. They had built their life far from the bustling world, thriving in their deep bond and unwavering affection for one another. Their days were spent tending to their small garden, sharing heartfelt conversations by the fireplace, and supporting each other through every trial.

One chilly morning, Eliza awoke feeling unwell. Her fevered brow and weakened form worried Samuel deeply. He kissed her forehead gently and promised to gather firewood and fresh fruits from the forest to nurse her back to health.

As the sun filtered through the towering trees, Samuel embarked on his journey into the heart of the woods, his woven basket in hand. He journeyed further than usual, mesmerized by the tranquil surroundings. However, his amazement turned to astonishment when he stumbled upon a hidden clearing, where a golden temple gleamed in the dappled sunlight.

The temple was adorned with intricate carvings, its walls shimmering with gold. Samuel's heart raced as he stepped through the entrance, his breath taken away by the opulence within. Golden artifacts adorned every surface, and exotic fruits in hues he had never imagined covered ornate tables.

Unable to resist the allure, Samuel filled his basket with the unique fruits, his mind entranced by the treasure trove before him. He collected wood and other supplies, then returned home to his ailing wife.

Eliza's eyes lit up at the sight of the fruits, her gratitude shining through her weakened state. Samuel recounted the tale of the temple to her, his voice carrying the excitement of discovery. "Tomorrow, I shall return to that temple," he vowed, his gaze locked with hers.

With the dawn of a new day, Samuel followed the forest's winding path back to the temple. But upon arrival, he was greeted by a chilling sight—a man sitting on a log, tears streaming down his face. Samuel's concern led him closer, his hand reaching out to offer solace.

The man's body tensed at the touch, and he slowly turned, revealing a grotesque visage—his face a deep crimson, eyes burning with an unnatural fire. Samuel staggered back, his heart pounding in his chest.

"You have taken from me," the man's voice was a low, guttural whisper, sending shivers through Samuel's spine. "A part of my very being."

Fear paralyzed Samuel, his voice caught in his throat as he watched the man stand and advance, his steps deliberate and haunting.

"This temple is me, and you've stolen a part of my essence," the man hissed, his laughter echoing through the air, malevolent and chilling.

Samuel stumbled backward, desperation etched on his face as he attempted to escape. A mere signal from the man halted his retreat, and agony surged through his body, extinguishing his life in an instant. The man's malevolent laugh lingered in the clearing as Samuel's lifeless form crumpled to the ground.

The man's crimson gaze turned toward the cabin, and his lips curled into a twisted smile. With purposeful steps, he made his way to the cabin door, his presence engulfing the space with an aura of malevolence.

Eliza's heart raced as the cabin's door swung open, revealing her husband's familiar form. But the eyes that met hers were different—hollow, sinister, and suffused with an otherworldly crimson glow.

"Eliza," the man's voice was a grotesque mimicry of Samuel's warm tones. "You've benefited from what you shouldn't have."

Terror seized Eliza's heart, her body rooted in fear as the man continued, his words dripping with a sinister intent. "Your life, your body—it shall all be mine now."

A scream of terror tore from Eliza's throat, but before she could react, the man's form contorted and twisted, his once-human features becoming monstrous, his crimson eyes fixating on her with a hunger that chilled her to the core.

The cabin's walls seemed to close in on Eliza, the air thick with dread as the man's demonic voice called her name. In a flash, his hands closed around her throat, his grip tightening as her vision dimmed.

As her life slipped away, Eliza glimpsed the horrifying truth—this creature was a guardian of a temple of unspeakable power, a deity or spirit seeking retribution for the theft of its essence. Her last breath mingled with the echo of that haunting laugh, a cautionary tale of a forest's hidden secret, where transgressions would never go unanswered.

The temple's golden splendor remained shrouded in mystery, a warning to those who ventured too close. To this day, the story of Samuel, Eliza, and the man with the crimson face serves as a chilling reminder—some secrets are best left undiscovered, and some desires should never be indulged.
